Document Evolution of Library Positions

This project aims to identify and document the evolution of Librarian positions in the past 10-15 years. Specifically, this initiative will study positions that have been re-hired (as Librarian positions), lost, never replaced; converted to staff, etc.

Intended Outcomes

  • Collect and create a corpus of all Librarian series current job descriptions to identify skills/expertise gaps and help craft new Librarian job descriptions
  • A document mapping the changes/evolution of the librarian positions; increased awareness of the current state of academic librarianship at UC San Diego
  • An elevated view of skills/expertise gaps
  • Increase awareness of areas that should be covered
